On August 25th, Hurricane Harvey made landfall. The category 4 hurricane hit the Texas coast and had devastating effects on local families and businesses. With over 50 inches of rainfall in some areas, Harvey stretched from the Houston area into Louisiana. Harvey broke the rainfall record for a single tropical storm in the United States. Nationwide, people watched as this natural catastrophe ravaged homes, schools, and stores. For those who were stranded in the middle of the storm, rescue teams worked diligently to help where needed. However, officials blame over 60 deaths and numerous injuries on the storm.

In the aftermath, families and many individuals living in the area were left to pick up the pieces. Americans from all over the country have come together to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey. As people are still suffering from the effects of flooding, organizations such as the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), have sprung into action.

On Thursday August 31st, the NJCAA announced the launch of a campaign to aid in the relief efforts with a focus on junior college community. The campaign will focus on the sale of a specially designed shirt with the slogan “Texas Strong – #NJCAACares.” Each shirt will be available for purchase for $15, with all proceeds going to a fund that will be distributed to aid NJCAA Region 14’s member colleges and communities.
